I just took a look at a 1953 6x6 cargo truck which is labeled XM211. It
looks pretty good overall and is reported to have been running well when
the engine blew 4 years ago. It has original paint & markings and looks
like it was bought in Albuquerque, NM.
I've got a couple of questions for those of you who are familiar with
this vehicle:
1st (and foremost) What would be the best engine to put in? I'm more
interested in function than in being completely original. The manual
lists a "GMC-type 302, gasoline, six-cylinder in-line, valve in head
engine." Any thoughts?
I'm also interested in the "X" in XM211. I have always thought that X
meant experimental or prototype in this context. Does anyone know if
this is or isn't the case?
Any other info would also be appreciated, general strengths, weaknesses,
what to watch out for ,etc. I'll be using it to travel & haul material
up and down the mountainous four wheel drive roads of SW colorado. I'm
sure that I'll end up with it - it belongs to a friend who just wants it
out of her yard & isn't interested in getting much for it.
Thanks For Any Info,
