There is a fellow in our area that offers soda blasting. This is similar to
sandblasting but uses sodium bicarbonate powder to accomplish the same. This
is bio-degradeable (just hose it away) and leaves the surface a lot smoother
than sandblasting. It will not remove rust however. I painted an M35 and an
M38A1 that was cleaned using this process and was pretty satisfied with the
result. A caveat is to be sure to clean all the soda from the vehicle (the
M35 is still leaching soda through the CARC paint at a couple of the body
seams). It seems with todays tecnology there are many options in preping your
vehicle for paint. The hardest part now seems to be wich one to choose!!
