Mike,

FIRST DRAIN/CLEAN TANK CAREFULLY SO NO GAS OR FUMES LEFT IN TANK!

I used caustic soda beads to make a water mix to clean the tank in my M-37.
Drano would apparently do the same thing. During discussion about paint
stripping, several wrote me that Drano is just as good as the caustic soda
beads, and probably a lot easier to find (and you dont have to buy a minimum
of 50 pounds). Formula for drano is approx. one container of crystal drano
(not liquid) to 10 gallon water. Heat up solution to 120-130 F and pour in
tank.

Ideas about loosening rust with rocks or chain look to me to have merit, you
might want to try that too. I poured caustic soda/water mix in tank, warm
not hot, and left over night. Drained and flushed several times. Left a
fine coat on bottom but it wasn't loose. You might want to heat you gas tank
up with a coleman stove or other heat source.

I didn't have pinholes so others comments about coatings are appropriate.

Good Luck!! Tom Campbell Birmingham, Alabama
