Drain plugs on the left side is correct. In late 1942, the military made Willys
change the location of the drain plugs to make maintenance easier. With the
drain plugs on the right side, you had to drop the skid plate to drain the
transmission. Willys then passed the change for Ford to make. The Ford
transmissions with the drain plugs on the right side are GPW 7005. When
the change order was given, I believe Ford modified the transmission and
gave it the part number GPW 7005A. I can't find any reference that lists
GPW 7006. This is a new one to me. Maybe Bill Kish has a reference
that mentions this number. He much more of a GPW expert than I am.

I believe this is a July 13, 1948 casting date.
