How you go about it depends on the state, in your case, VA.

I'm in CA so this may or may not help.

1) you need to find the previous owner - maybe a person, or a government, =
at least who they are. If you absolutely CAN'T identify such an owner, =
then MAYBE it is "Found property" - but I doubt it. If it is really a =
M151a1, then at least one of the previous owners was the good 'ol gov't. =
Assuming it was bought from the Gov't at some point, then they would have =
(probably) issued a SF97, which would have been the gov'ts version of a =
bill of sale. You NEED this document. Alternatively, if someone else had =
purchased, it, THEY (whether they titled it or not) would have been given =
the Bill of Sale (SF97). In that case, you have to track down all the =
"somebodys" until you get to the bill of sale, and obtain it.
2) It MAY be possible (and may not, too) to do this based on affadavits =
from the people you got the vehicle from stating the circumstances of how =
it came into their hands, and into your hands. This well might take a =
magistrate of judge to bless. The DMV certainly won't tackle it - they =
don't pay those guys enough to stick their necks out that far. Once a =
judge says the vehicle is yours, IT IS. Then you can get the DMV issued =
title.

Don't know if this helps or not. Good luck!

While looking for a M-37 to buy, I came across a nice M-151a1--but it
doesn't have a title. Does anyone have experience obtaining a title in
Virginia? How difficult is it to obtain one? Does anyone know of any =
way
to title this awesome little creature? Is there any hope?

Any feedback would be appreciated.
