The first version of the transmission had the fill and level plugs on
the right side (passenger side). The second version the plugs were moved
to the left side (drivers side) in late '42. And the third version the
fill plug was raised 1 inch higher (still on the left side) late '44. I
don't believe anyone knows the exact sn# for these changes. If so it
would be very interesting info. I have run into other part numbers cast
into parts that don't match the numbers in the gpw parts books, this
still happens on late model ford vehicles and they are referred to as
enginnering numbers. Why go to all that trouble?
