Hi Military Vehicle List,

My name is HANDOKO, Iam Mil-Veh lover, I lived in

INDONESIA (South East Asia), I am in repairing my MB

Engine.

I need your help to solve my problem when Installing

Connecting Rod + Piston to the engine block and=20

Crankshaft , Could you please figure it out ?,

Because I confuse when I read the TM-803? published

by Potrayal Press and the mechanic's argument (who is

repairing my MB engine right now and he have experienced

with the jeep engine about 40 Years)

The Mechanic state that all the piston with the T -Slot side=20

and the oil squirt hole on the connecting rod are facing=20

to the valve side (righthand side from front view of the

engine.) He said that he experienced disassembly new

engine

The TM's state that all the piston with the T-Slot facing to the=20

Valve side but all of the oil squirt hole are facing opposite.

Which one is correct ?

Having just finished rebuilding my MB engine I noticed the same typographical
error.
The error appears on page 47, Section V, paragraph f of TM9-1803A. One
sentence tells you to position the oil squirt hole towards the right side of
the engine. A few sentences later the manual tells you to position the squirt
hole towards the left side of the engine. The purpose of the oil squirt hole
is to spray oil towards the camshaft. Follow the instructions (Fig. 36) about
positioning the short end of the connecting rod away from the nearest main
bearing. This will result in the squirt hole being positioned towards the
camshaft, or rightside of the engine as you face it from the front.
Good luck!
