Hello list:

I am trying to replace the original external contracting emergency brake =
on
my early '42 GPW. There should be a bracket mounted on the engine side o=
f
the firewall, to which the emergency brake cable housing is clamped (I
think). Unfortunately it is missing on mine. =

I was hoping someone might be able to describe it well enough (and includ=
e
dimensions), so that I could fabricate a new one. Also two other
questions.

1. About an inch towards the glovebox from the hole where the brake cabl=
e
comes through, there is a 5/8 " square hole in the firewall. Is this
original, and if so, what is it for?

2. Is there anything special about the clamp on the transfer case end of
the emergency brake cable housing? There are two holes where the clamp
mounts on the case. The lower one is for the bolt. What is the upper on=
e
for? Does the clamp have some kind of peg which fits the second hole to
keep it from rotating around the mounting bolt? Inquiring minds want to
know...

Needless to say, if anyone out there has the clamps or bracket parts they=

can spare, I would appreciate hearing about it...
