<< I'm a 6-month owner of what seems to be a
curious hybrid of GPW frame and MB body >>
Congrats on becoming a WWII jeep owner. A prestigeous group in my opinion.
Don't get too down about your jeep being a "hybrid" just yet. Later in the
war Ford and Willys shared the same body tub. Made by the American Central
Automotive Co and shipped to both Willys and Ford, these bodies then recieved
all of the small add on components that should make it possible for you to
identify the user of your body and therefore its relationship to your frame.
Easiest way to tell is the tool box lids. Are they flat or do the have raised
impressions in them? Flat ones belong with a Willys body so pray for indented
ones. These could have been changed at some point however so don't get too
excited or disappointed just by this one clue. Does your jeep have its glove
box door? this is where the data tag containing all the info you need to know
should be. Maker, date of delivery, serial # etc... Let us know what you
find.
