This reminds me of a scheme cooked up by a local heavy-lift helicopter
operation. The owner decided it would be a great idea to chopper the logs
from coastal logging operations to a carrier converted to a floating lumber
mill. It would then be a simple matter to load the finished product onto
ships bound for Japan or just steam the carrier there and finish the lumber
while underway. For some reason Uncle Sam nixed the idea and the fellow was
not allowed to purchase the carrier. It might have been that they were afraid
he would land his collection of vintage Naval aircraft on the carrier :).
Probably had more to do with trade problems though.
