I am working on an '81 CJ-8 Scrambler Jeep that is in pretty rough shape.
When I'm done with it, I hope it resembles an M-170 (I believe that is
correct) military ambulance, which was the military version of a CJ-6.
I want to put non-directional tires on it but I'm not sure how to go
about this. I believe I have 8" rims now but I'm sure that the tires I
want would not fit on those rims properly, is that correct?
I have been told that I would need to order 15" non-directional tires,
because the 16" ones would not fit in my wheel well. Is this right?
I'm looking for a cheap version of this tire, anyone have any suggestions
or sources? What is a good price for this type of tire?
If I do have to get new rims, what do I have to get and what can I expect
to pay for them?
While this isn't a "true" military vehicle, it will have to hold me over
until I can afford one, so your help is greatly appreciated. I'm still a
novice, so please don't assume anything in terms of sources, mechanical
knowledge or parts. Please spell it out for me.
Thank you!
Jason
