Hello!

Got an GMC CCKW 353 from the Norwegian Army about two years ago. Haven’t
got any time to do anything with it until now, so I have started trying
to get information about it, so I can get it as close as possible to the
original. The truck is an Engineer Motorized Shop, and it is of the open
body type. There seems to have been an sort of crane in the front of the
truck, working with the winch. There are also some remains of what I
believe must have been supporting legs for the crane on the front
bumper.

There is an sign in the back of the truck witch is telling me this:

CORPS OF ENGINEERS
U.S. ARMY
ENGINEER MOTORIZED SHOP
GENERAL PURPOSE BODY
COUSE TYPE C
MANUFACTURED BY
THE AMERICAN COACH AND BODY CO
CLEVELAND, OHIO
C OF E.P.O. 57931 DATED MAR 1943
U.S.REG NO 0049468

At the rear end of the truck there are welded in «Carnegie U.S.A» in the
body metal (hand written, looks old)

The sign on the inside of the firewall says:

CCKW 353 SER NO 1634682
DELIVERY DATE 1-43
PONTIAC, MICHIGAN

The truck is in very good condition, if the missing external parts is
not counted. There are no signs that tells that the truck ever have been
rebuilt. (There are even the original factory seal on the carburettor) I
started it last winter, while the thermometer had been stuck on 25
degrees C below 0 for an week, and it started almost at once!

What I want, is to get in touch with someone that have any knowledge to
this sort of GMC, or someone witch can tell me where to get information
regarding this vehicle, both technical and historical related. (Where it
was used, what it was used for, etc)

Hope to get some answers!
