Rick,
I've had great success with GUN BLUE! A lot of nuts and bolts for my HD =
WLA motorcycle were replica cad plated items. I put them a pyrex glass =
dish with hydro-chloric acid to remove the cadmium and degrease. Be very =
careful, a by product is cyanide gas and very dangerous, so do it =
outside, stand upwind and keep your breath when close. Get the parts out =
when the bubbling stops (after a few minutes). Then follow the gun blue =
instructions. The stuff I used is bought at WAL MART for $1.97. The =
parts turned out really black and are indistinguishable from original =
parkerized parts. Like all parkerized parts they should kept oily to =
prevent rust.

There are also special kits available complete with degreasing =
solutions. One is CASWELL at http://www.caswellplating.com/nsindex.htm. =
Look for CASWELL BLACK OXIDE KIT. The kit contains =BD pint Blackening =
Concentrate (makes =BD gal) & 1 pint Penetrating Sealant, which will =
treat up to 100 square feet surface area for $20.00.

I think these are only worth while when you have a lot of parts to be =
parkerized. If anybody is interested I can find more sources.

Does anyone have any information on do-it-yourself at home parkerizing?
If do-able at all.

Thanks,=20
