[MV] M-37 Engine Questions

I spent a wonderful day pulling the engine from my M-37! Upon sucessful
extraction of the frozen hunk of metal I have a couple of questions which I
hope someone can answer. First, the engine serial number is "A1291" without
the T245 prefix. Is this a civilian replacement engine? Second, the pistons
are marked "040" which I take to mean that the engine has already been bored
oversize .040. Can I bore the engine out bigger (cylinders are pretty bad
with pistons frozen in place by rust)?

Thanks in advance for any assistance from the M-37 experts.
