The YP model Chevy's were first produced in October 1940 as I recall. The xfer
is different in those than all the later "Z" and "Y" models with the exception
of the telephone service truck.
The dash gauges are civy and the truck is little modified from the civy
truck of that day. I wrote an article about them a few years ago for
GM Journal (my publication). Send me your address and I will see if I can find
the article and send it to you. It detailed all the differences in the Y, Z,
and N models.

The more modern (full pressure) Chevy 235 is a much nicer engine and if you get
a pre 1955 one it will have the water pump in the correct place. Externally, the
only difference then is the lifter/side pan cover. The original goes all the
way up to the valve cover. The later ones (full pressure engines) stops at the
head. 1955 and later mootors have the water pump lowered making the shroud
not viable. They still work well though.
The master cyl is the same as the 3/4 ton civy truck from 41-46. Wheel
cylinders can be rebuilt by someone like Whitepost for $80 + $8 for shipping.
The parking brake is on the rear wheels. Start looking for the civy 1.5 ton
rear parking brake cables now. They are hard to come by.

The problem moving could be a frozen wheel cyl (or 2-4). If the truck was
stored inside, the xfer/tranny should not have water in them. The early xfers
had a dumb vent on the rear that was just behind the cab so that water passing
between the cab and the cargo body would fall right on it and eventually enter
it.

The clutch may have been destroyed if you have already stepped on it and had it
thrown out mice/chipmunk (little *&^*& rodents!) bedding material. What
happens is that it gets thrown out into the pivot area for the clutch pressure
plate spring. It then causes an imbalance in the diaphram (tin can
clutch!) spring.

The chevy is probably the most under valued MV's out there. They are a nice
truck if you can find one that is not beat. Most nice Chevy's go for
$500-$5,000. They do not seem as popular as the CCKW's and forget the WW2 jeeps

Good luck and let me know how you make out.
