As some of you know, I also work with old John Deere two-cylinder tractors.
Granted, the technology is ancient, the basic design going back to the '20s,
my particular examples ca. '49.
Both of my tractors have oil-bath filters, and both were designed for heavy
use (and both were heavily used) in the worst of environments for an IC
engine: agriculture. Think a four-wheel trail is dusty? Try plowing fields!
Anyway, in this particular application, the oil-bath appears to have all
necessary filtering capacity: when I pulled the head of our B-model for
valve rejuvenation, I found the interior of the engine to be in excellent
shape: very clean (but not dust-polished).
Maybe not worth $.02, but submitted respectfully,
Steve Allen
