First, the vitals on the GPW. Serial number (taken from frame rail) is:
50095. It has an MB engine with serial MB513763. Head has the word
Jeep cast into it, but has no reinforcing ribs, so I assume it to be
either very late war or early CJ head. I didn't get any casting on the
block yet, but should soon. Unfortunately, the dataplates on the
glovebox do not match. The dataplate serial is 112001 with DoD 5/43.
Overall condition is fairly good. Biggest mods are steering column
replaced with 70ish Ford tilt wheel column (very ugly) and the seat have
been replaced with seats from the same Ford car the column came from.
It has the typical rusted out hat channels and floor rust, but otherwise
is fairly sound, including the fuel tank sump. It has been covered over
with diamond plate is all. Most all brackets, all four body handles,
original windshield and possibly glass intact. Overall about 85%
complete. Best of all, it was nearby and looks like it will be CHEAP.
Now, the CJ-2A. Why do I think it is early? First clue, it has the
indentations below the drivers side opening for the shovel and axe, yet
it also has the outside drain hole and outside factory gas filler
opening. It's serial is 21644 with CJ-3A engine of 3J84613.
Additionally, it is a column shift. It is in fair to good condition,
but has some parts missing under the hood (air cleaner, carb, radiator,
waterpump, manifold, etc.) Has original seats. and windshield with
Willys. Minimumal rust. About 85-90% complete (minus engine).
Lastly, the Ford truck. We didn't really pay much attention until we
walked around in front and saw the remnants of unit markings on the
peeling chrome bumper. That prompted a look inside (through broken
window as both doors were frozen shut with rust). I found military
dataplates, but no year indication. DoD stated only 9-1 with no year.
Its nomenclature was (not 100% sure as I didn't write this down, sorry,
it was darn cold) Ford 1-1/2 Ton T11 4x2 Stake. It has a V-8 flathead
under the hood and a very badly dilapidated wooded bed. Shattered
windows and completely missing windshield. From the looks of the large
rounded hood and large bulbous fenders, I would estimate it to be around
1939-41 model 1-1/2 Ton (Administrative) truck.
I am currently attempting to broker a deal for my friend. He has no
interest in either the Ford 1-1/2 Ton nor the CJ-2A. If the package
deal goes through, I will likely aquire them both. If so, the will both
be up for sale complete or as parts vehicles.
What's the bottom line of this long post?
1) what is the approximate value of the CJ-2A and the 1-1/2 Ton Ford?
2) Don't despair in your hunt for a cheap, nearby vehicle as they are
still out there. We found this one close to home in an area we both
drive by fairly frequently and which I have flown over many time trying
to find old vehicles.
Thanks for reading this long message.
