This is Al :
There is a Surplus Military electronics company, that sells "Electronic
Vibrators" that step-up the voltage for that kind of radios, it is
called FAIR RADIO SALES they are located in Lima, Ohio. I don't have
their adress but you can look it up. They have been around now about 50
years, they
put out a catalog once a year, it is free. The equipment that they sell
is mainly vintage radio gear from military, (WWII, Korea, 50,60,70s) it
is not very expensive stuff. They also have every kind manuals for
radios (military, & other). Getting back to your question, the best way
would be, to step up the voltage from 6 to 12 is to use that type of a
device, it works like a motor, looks like a small motor, voltage from
the
battery runs the small generator, on one
side while it generates a higher voltage on the other side (output),
why
is it a vibrator ? because it vibrates
when it is running or when the radio is on. Most of the Military Radios
had some strange power requirements.
I.E. 6.3vdc, 12.vdc, 18vdc, 48vdc, all these type of voltages where
provided by the vibrators, a specific
one for the type of radio.. I would try to find that type of a vibrator
(provided that you need the right type
of voltage for your radio) Remember that if you need 15 Amps and 12
volts to drive the radio to Xmitt, you will
have to get a 30 amp vibrator in the input side, this device is not
just
a generator but a combination unit,
different modules for input/output. I hope that it helps you as one of
the alternatives to power that radio,
and still retain the originality of the Historical GPW.
