$4500 sounds a bit high for an M715 unless it's in GREAT shape. I paid $3500
for mine and I am certain that that was too much. After disassembling my
failed engine this week, I find that the provious owner's version of an engine
rebuild was lapping the valves then cleaning the block off and throwing some
spray paint on it. I figure that I'll spend about $450 to rebuild the original
engine. I would much rather get rid of the engine and upgrade to a Chevy 350
but I figure that runs about $800-$900 in the end (too much for me, right
now).
As far as parts for the engine go, A.B. Linn, Inc 7022 Jones Rd Sailsbury,
NC 28147 (704)-637-9076 has hundreds of parts for M715 engine rebuilding.
At $12.50 per piston, $35.00 for an entire ring set, etc., I assure you that a
better deal does not exist.
Other sources can be found on the M715 web page. You'll find that by going to
http://www.mvpa.org/links.html It's listed in the category that contains 1
1/4 ton trucks.
For the re-engine option, I'd try NOVAK Enterprises. I don't have their web
address, but it is easily found using YAHOO or other web searchers. They want
$380 for a chevy 350 adapter. I think Advance Adaptor wants $500.
Good Luck,
Mark Masse
