During the "Blizzard of '96" here it Va we got 2.5' of snow. I was out in it
every day in my '73 M35A2C w/o chains. A friend of mine was stuck in his house
for a few days until I came over and pounded my way thru 4' drifts down his
long drive to his house. The truck did fine until I had to turn a tight corner
and couldn't keep the momentum going and turn at the same time. I ended up
turning the truck around and pushed my way backwards thru the drifts. When the
snow piled up to high we would shovel it off to either side. It took most of
the mourning to go about 1000'. After reaching his house I hooked up to his
full size van and drug it to the road. I think the thing that really helps the
newer deuces is the air controlled front axel. Its nice to have complete
control of the engagement of the front axel. There are times in icy conditions
when you don't want the front axel kicking in so that you can steer and other
times when you don't want to wait for it. The experience was alot of fun until
I was leaving. I was driving up his road which is a two lane country road
which had been plowed w/ 7' snow banks on either side. Traveling at about
25mph I came around an off camber turn to find a pickup coming the other way.
I tapped my brakes I began to slide right for him.
I could see his front wheels lock up. I let off my brakes and managed to stuff
the duce into the snow bank on the side of the road. After changing my
underwear I thru the truck into reverse and went on my way. Remember all wheel
drive dosen't help you stop or turn.
