I remember in Germany the problems we had with tracked vehicles on snow
and ice. We used to take every 5th or 6th center guide on the M-60
series of tanks and trimed a few inches off the center guide and reverse
the center guide so that it pointed to the ground side of the track.
This solution worked great at Graf or in the field, but sure tore up the
asphalt if the snow wasn't too deep.
