I had a master cylinder sleeved and rebuilt recently by White Post
Restorations in VA (they do hundreds per week!). They do NOT recommend
the use of silicone brake fluid. While the use of silicone works well
in many cases, there are always a few disasters. They used silicone
brake fluid at one time, but after gooking up several entire brake
systems (and having to re-do the entire system again), they stopped
using it--even though they have several cases of the stuff still on
hand.
Another brake cylinder rebuilder I had contact with said that their
rebuilt units are guaranteed UNLESS you use silicone fluid at which
point the warranty is void. They report that they've had rebuilds come
back in as little as three days--a mess of dissolved rubber.
I had planned to switch to silicone bf, but now--I'm going to stick with
DOT 3 or 4. My 2 cents worth.
