I had an interesting occurence following a local reenactment one day. I
was the last person leaving the site and stayed behind to lock the gate.
As I drove awayin my 1943 Ford GPW, I met a deputy sheriff. He turned
around and stopped me. Seems someone had called the sheriff
reference shots being fired. Come to find out, it wasn't the reenactors
that were the offenders as we had been at it most of the day with no
problems. The problem was a local who decided late in the day to start
firing his 30-30 indiscriminately around the area. The call was made
after the reenactors had fired their last rounds for the day.

When the deputy stopped me, I was in uniform and had several
weapons in my jeep. He never even really questioned me after I told him
what we had been doing. FIRING BLANKS. Also, when I told him when
we quit, he really knew it wasn't us he was concerned with.

The story here is: Like said before, when driving your military vehicle,
especially in period uniform, even with live weapons on board, most law
enforcement agencies won't hassle you. It is pretty evident you are not
a violent threat.
