Back in the early 70's there were some really cold winters in the New England
area. My plow truck, a 1946 Chevrolet 1.5 ton dump (like the civy ones the US
military bought in WW2 and almost identical to the WW2 4x4 Chevys') had a very
hard time starting. I would take a one pound coffee can and put about 1/2" of
gasoline in it. It was quite difficult to light it with a match.
I would set it under the oil pan, watch it for a while (to make sure nothing
caught) and come back in 1/2 hour and it would start like summer... 8-)
