When I had to move my wrecker I towed it as a flat tow behind my deuce =
on a medium military towbar. Shifted both the trans and transfer into =
neutral. The air system on the wrecker was hooked up so the brakes =
worked. Really, it was too heavy for my poor little deuce and I spent =
most of my time in fourth gear. The guys in Stockton who watched me =
leave didn't think I would make it.=20

The M62 is such a gas guzzling, underpowered slug I usually tow it out =
to the woods behind my M51 dump truck anyway. I have recovered my deuce =
with a 1 1/2 ton flatbed truck when the fan decided to eat the radiator =
late on night. Towing a larger vehicle with a smaller one is best left =
alone if you don't have a bunch of experiance with heavy tows and towing =
in combination.=20

I put two deuces on tow bars behind an M813, 5 ton and ran about two =
hunderd miles. I have pictures of this insanity and that is one I won't =
do again. Problem with deuces is that there is no hookups for the air =
system on the front of the truck which means that the only thing that =
had brakes was the tow vehicle. Got real interesting toward the bottom =
of some of the longer grades.

I guess the trick is to take corners very slowly, 1/2 the recomended =
speed or less. Start off the top of a long grade going slow and use the =
engine to hold you back. Start braking for a stop or turn well in =
advance and keep power on through the turns to keep the consist =
stretched out. SPEED CONTROL!!! Most folks drive entirely too fast for =
conditions. When in doubt GO SLOW!!. As an example: I ran a deuce with =
about 8 tons on in cargo, about 500 miles last October during some of =
the heaviest rains of the season. At one point out around Palm Springs I =
was down to about 25 to 30 mph in a downpour. Made the mission with no =
problems. One of the guys out of the local NG unit rolled a 900 series 5 =
ton about 100 miles from where I was during the same period because it =
was found,he was running too fast. Damn near killed him. BEEEEE CAREFUL =
!!!
