If you have access to a gooseneck trailer and at least a 1 ton pickup, it is
possible to transport. However, if you don't, then even if you rented one,
you probably don't have the right equipment to chain it down with anywise.
I'm in the shipping business and we move a lot of 45 foot semi trailers that
have been turned into storage trailers. Once they have sat for about a year
or so, the brakes totally freeze to the drums. Some times we may drag all
eight wheels a half mile or so before they brake loose. If the 2 1/2 ton
truck has been sitting for any length of time, a 30K pound winch may not
even move it. However, that's another story/problem.
As for taking it apart. That's a tall order. If your going through all that
trouble you might as well do a frame off restoration. Practically every nut
and bolt on mine is either painted, rusted, or some other way frozen on. It
takes a lot of effort to get those nuts and bolts off.
Here's another way. First, join the Army and then branch Aviation. Learn to
fly a CH-47. Fly the CH-47 to truck and sling from underneath. Then fly to
your house. Drop it in yard and your mission objective will be
complete.(Note, this is only a suggestion.)

What's the best way to transport a dead 2 1/2 ton truck? If I buy one in
southern Indiana, I have to transport it about 170 miles. The towing
company wants 400-$425 to make the run with a flatbed rollback truck.
He's got a 30K lb winch so loading should not be a problem. Has anyone
ever used a tandem or triaxle gooseneck trailer to move a 6x6. Has anyone
ever rented a such a gooseneck trailer? What about flat towing with
another truck and a towbar? I assume the drive shafts would have to be
disconnected. Any creative ideas, take it apart, move it, put it back
together?? (Hey, I've done crazier things!) I've got a crane good for
about 2500 lbs, what if I took off the bed and 4 wheels, would I be down
around 10 K lbs then??
I've got a tandem trailer good for about 10K pounds but a 6x6 is more like
12-13 k lbs I believe.
Any crazy ideas considered.
