[MV] Admin: NO OFF-TOPIC POSTINGS

Obviously, I need to remind the list about several administrative
matters. This will be only the first of several messages I must
post. Frankly, I am extremely busy working on business
matters--non-military-vehicles projects that I hope will continue
to cover the cost of this mailing list, for example. Therefore, I
don't want to have to repeat this for a while.

By and large, discussions on the list have been civil and on-topic.
But several people have recently posted off-topic messages to the
list, particularly concerning firearms. I kill these posts as soon
as I can, but some of you will inevitably get a copy. Please don't
reply to them via the list. Furthermore, I must remind everyone to
discuss non-MV issues in other fora (for firearms, see the rec.guns
newsgroup or any of the numerous firearms mailing lists).

Yes, we have a lot of knowledgeable people on this list who are
very kind and helpful, but this particular mailing list concerns
the private ownership of military vehicles. It does not concern
firearms, it does not concern non-military fire trucks, it does not
concern non-MV charitable causes. It is not for idle chatter, or
seasonal greetings, or virus notices, or jokes, or Windows
troubleshooting.

I run this list as a service to the hobby, to promote the private
ownership and enjoyment of military vehicles, to preserve history--and
help prevent us from repeating it. Please discuss only military
vehicle issues on the military vehicles mailing list.

Of course, there will be some topics that overlap with non-MV areas,
for example, firearms. Use this rule of thumb to determine if your
question is appropriate. If it directly deals with a vehicle ("What
type of mount do I need for my 1919 A4 on vehicle X") then it will likely
be appropriate for the list. But if your question doesn't directly
relate ("Where can I get a bolt for my ABC rifle?" or "How do I
detail strip a ZYX?") then it does NOT belong on the list. Requests
for general militaria (uniforms, medals, boots, and so on) are not
generally appropriate (try alt.military.collecting first) because,
again, they are not directly related to the vehicles themselves.
If you are creating a display and exhaust all other resources, then
ask here.

Use your common sense. Don't discuss non-military vehicles here,
and use firearms newsgroups and mailing lists for strictly firearms
questions.
