[MV] Transfer cases

I was told that the NP 200 transfer case as used in the M-37 and M715 is
nearly the same internally as
the "modern" NP 205 which is considered by many to be a good strong case
and has been used sucessfully behind big block V-8s. Is this information
correct ? Does anyone have any actual ratings, either by max. GVW or by
torque capacity for either one of these boxes ? Or maybe someone knows what
was the heaviest vehicle to ever use an NP-200 ?
The same person also told me that both the 200 and the 205 can be
reconfigured from offset
rear output to a centered rear output and vice versa. Does he know what he
is talking
about ? I have heard of M-37s overheating the transfer case when used for
long highway trips with V-8 power. I have never experienced excessive
noise or heat with an NP 205 in a ' 78 Chevy V-8 Suburban so there must be
differences. Thanks for any enlightenment. Mike Fletcher, Big Bone, Ky.
