The list had a discussion on DOT 3 vs DOT 5 a while back. From what I
remember the outcome was mixed, use what you like. On the other hand, a
friend of mine recently had a tour of White Post Restorations (they advertise
resleeving master and wheel cylinders); and he asked them that question.
Their advice was to use only DOT 3 and stay away from the silicone fluids. On
this basis I put in DOT 3 in my M37 recently. However, I've run military
silicone fluid in my M38A1 for about 4 years without any problems. Again, a
mixed bag. Maybe some of our resident list experts would care to reinterate
their wisdom concerning the silicone question.
