JC Taylor sells a special voltage reducer just for gas gauges. It cost $16 as I
recall. It appears to be solid state as opposed to just a resistor. The unit
looks like a small bar with a hole on each end. One end is bolted to the gauge
and the other end is bolted to the original wire. An additional wire that must
be connected to ground someplace also comes out of the unit.
