>I got 2 cents worth here.I live in Surrey British Columbia Canada. It's
probably the highest auto theft area in Canada.A lot of vehicles hit the
boats for China and so forth.I call Surrey the Bronx of Canada.
>It's not that hard to stop the theft but do you really want to?It depends
on where you live and how it gets dealt with.Good luck if you are in Morroco
and your truck dissappears. In all the years I've been in Land Rovers all of
the ones stolen in the province of BC have been recovered and in most cases
without the police. We have created such a good network among the clubs that
a theft is reported the minute it is discovered.Everyone from back east to
here and down to California gets notified. The truck usually gets spoted
within 24 hours.Because of the uniqueness of the vehicle it is hard to unload.
>You can deter most thefts but a pro.And a pro will only go after your truck
if it is marketable whole or in parts. The more damage that has to be done to
get it the less likely the pro will be inclined to steal it.And the non-pro
(mostly kids,punks,and gangs)steal for image or ego,drug habits,or
joyrides. These guys are actually the worst because the more you deter the
ease of the theft the more they will purposly damage your truck out of
spite.Remember thesepeople have no respect for you or your truck.I find the
best deterant to use is a dissabling system that allows the thief to steal
the truck like normal(because this will create the least damage and catch
them of guard)and then have the dissabling system kick in at a specified
time. For example i live right in the city and if someone took my truck it
will dissable in about 2 mintues which would put the thief right about in
the middle of a main road or in an intersection.Any normal thief would bail
out now because it draws attention and that's the last thing they want.It
wouldn't be long before someone would find the abandoned truck and report
it.The stupid thief would try to fix whats wrong and the cops here first ask
for registration and liscene before they help you anyways so that would put
the crook on the spot again.
>Deterents could be stuff like a fuel cut off, which will usually let a truck
get started by the fuel in the line and carb until it gets used up,(about 2
minutes),or a timed solenoid on the 12 volt supply to the coil,or a timed
alarm where all the lights and horn gooff. The best one I've seen is a guy
who had a small charge under the dash but placed reasonably safe. This thing
would go off at whatever time he set it for.It was activated by motion and
when it would activate it would send smoke and the smell of burning plastic
into the cab.Ever smell burning plastic? One whiff and you're out of
there. This stuff fries your lungs better than any pepper spray.I don't know
how legal it is.
>By the way I live in an area surrounded by bikers,Indians, and druggies. They
all have rottweilers, pitbulls and other breeds.I let it be knowen that I
don't believe in an eye for an eye.You take my eye,I take your whole head so
that you don't take my other eye.(Viking philosophy). The times i have been
robbed I found who it was and It turns out the majority of the time it's
someone you know.
>Something to keep in mind.
