whatta story! I had my m-43 parked outside a grocery store and this old
WW2
vet stopped by to chat about the truck and his experiences during the
war.he
narrowly missed death when he was hit by shrapnel and taken to a barn
housing
other wounded soldiers.it was too full to admit him on a stretcher so
they loaded
him back on the jeep and started driving away.the coastal guns had
shifted their
targets inland and started battering anything that looked like the
allies.no sooner
was he on his way down the driveway from the barn when it got a direct
hit from a
shell and immediately caught fire.all inside parished.he went back to
the same
location in holland with his two sons for the fiftieth anniversary of D
day and said
it was the most bizarre experience standing at the entrance to where the
old barn
used to be and the spot where he lay in a stretcher 50 years ago.
I offered him a ride home and boy was he excited.we let the siren and
the lights go
(something i don't normally do unless its new years eve).once at his
house he
told me to wait awhile so he could get something he felt the truck
needed.he came
back with an old brass fire extinguisher.cool! he's had it for years and
forgot where
he picked it up.later i was looking at the label and it read 'PYRENE
FIRE EXTINGUISHER
1917.that would make it the first world war right? its in fairly good
condition with the
mounting bracket attached.i'll clean it up with brasso and give it a
polish.but i doubt
it is part of my truck's kit since it's too early for '55.any info on
this is much appreciated.
and no its not for sale. thanx.
