Hi List,

Does anyone have an original WW2 jeep spare parts bag and if so what
does it look like? Or maybe someone has a Beechwood repro - what do
they look like?

I have a NOS bag here which is about 12" x 9" khaki canvas with a
draw string closure - stamped " BAG, SPARE PARTS, Stock no.
24B1083-238"

I have some doubts about its originality - can anyone decipher this
number - is this some sort of ordnance number or a federal stock
number?

I have seen an original GMC spares bag - it was very similar but had
a leather thong as the tie although this could just be attributable
to the different contractor who made it.

Would the bag have the same number regardless of the vehicle of issue
or a different number reflecting the different contents (fan belt
etc) for each vehicle. On the jeep level, would Ford and Willys have
put their own names on the spare parts kits they issued with their
respective vehicles?

Regards,

David Robinson. Brisbane. Australia.
