You are referring to the 900 series of trucks. You won't find an
operational M934 expandable anywhere close to a reasonable price if you
find one at all. The regular M923 cargos ( that may or may not run ) have
been selling for about $10,000 to start! There have been a few M820s ( 240
cummins w/5 speed manual trans ) come up.
The kicker is that getting the truck is relatively easy, maintaining the
truck is the hard part. The bigger they are, the more expensive they are to
keep maintained in roadworthy condition. I have an M813 that needs axle
seals and a fuel line replacement sitting just outside the door!! Oh, and
did I mention the commercial driver's license required to drive it!!!!!
If you aren't an experienced heavy diesel mechanic you might consider
starting off with a 3/4 ton M37 or M715, something smaller to see if you
really like wrenching on these things. You don't need a crane to change a
flat tire. They aren't as exotic and sexy as the big trucks, but then you
don't have to spend as much money on jewels and furs to keep em happy.
