While I'm unfamiliar with the M151 system, I believe it's similar to my M38A1
and M37. The system works by using natural occuring engine pressure to
pressurize the engine approx 2 PSI above the atmosphere level, when the
fording valves are closed. (Normally this pressure is vented to the
atmosphere throught the valves) This is enough to keep the nasty river/stream
water from seeping in. The reason for the warning on not to keep the fording
system engaged too long is that you will have a tendency to blow gaskets
creating work for the 2nd and 3rd echelon maintenance guys. Replacing engines
due to this cause is guarenteed not to make them happy campers!
About the missing screw I can't help you there. Sorry, maybe some else can
supply the answer.
Hope this helps.
