[MV] ammo box markings-1940?

I asked a while back about markings on a jerry can and (a first!) got no
replies...

Now I'm asking about markings on an ammo box I've acquired:

B 166
I I <-- these are roman numerals, I think
C
MC 1940

If anyone has any ideas, thanks
