To follow up on Jason's search for a "cheap" MB/GPW, and also in
response to Jim's good information, the best piece of advice I could
give to anyone considering the restoration of a vehicle is save your
money and buy the best restoration candidate you can possibly afford.
The cost factor between purchasing a given part in functional condition
as part of the vehicle, or puchasing it later to replace a missing item
is at minimum a factor of one to five. Get catalogs sometime from the
larger jeep parts suppliers, and add up some of the major parts,
assuming you had to purchase them to complete a restoration. You would
find that paying $3000 to $4000 for a very complete and straight (but
unrestored) jeep would be far cheaper in the long run!

1942 GPW

The obvious exception to this advice would be the vehicle whose rarity
made it worthwhile to restore regardless of condition...
