[MV] M151 Starter

I have been re-installing the motor in my jeep after replacing the =
clutch. A friend that was helping me was messing around with the =
starter and has spun the bendix(?) to the out position and it will not =
retract back again. I like to never got the damn thing remounted with =
the bendix out, and now I am afraid to apply power to the unit, not =
knowing why it is stuck out and engaged with the fly wheel, or if it =
will retract on its own. Nothing looks dinged or bent, but it will not =
snap back to the stored position. Can anybody in the list shed some =
light on this?
