Howdy List,
This whole fire-extinguisher thread has been really good luck for me.
Somebody please start a new thread about really cheap MV finds! ;^)
Today I bought a fire-extinguisher at an antique shop that I think is for
a MB/GPW. The only problem is, it has no markings except "PAT PEND"
embossed in the T-handle. It looks like the sketch in All American Wonder
& is painted OD. It is about 3" in diameter & 14" long. Is there any way
to pin down the date/manufacturer?
Also, they had a Fyr-Fyter(I think) brand of the same style but it had a
definitely civilian label. Did the military ever use civilian
fire-extinguishers? If so, I can probably get if for about
$3.00-$5.00(price marked was $15.00 but I think she'll cut me a deal
again). For $20.00 I got an Ike jacket, 2 WW2 canteens w/covers dated
1943, 1 WW2 US "dinner" knife dated 1943, & 2 WW2 US forks.
The owner of the antique store told me about a local vet who had recently
passed away. His kids are going to use his MB for "messing around at the
lake house". I gave her my phone number & begged her to talk to them.
Probably will not work out, but I at least want them to realize they need
to preserve the jeep.
Thanks,
Brian Mead

P.S. Thanks to everyone who contributes/maintains to this list. It is
really inspiring to know there is the support to tackle my restoration.
Without this, I know I wouldn't have the guts to try.
