I made what looked like the "suitable puller" from some spring steel stock. But
even with this device, I was unable to break loose the inner axle seals. On my
vehicle, they are located at each of the 2 axle openings into the differential.
The "suitable puller" looked a little like the following (hope this comes
through in the e-mail). You squeeze down on the left hand end, and fit it
behind the seal. Then you use a hammer on the inside of the right hand side.

Alternatively, I:
(a) removed the wheel, bearings, hub, axle, etc.
(b) removed the gears from the differential (assume you are at this point now)
(c) inserted a long rod in place of the axle and positioned at the lip on the
inner axel seal. [Note: Carefull at this point, because there is also a brass or
copper insert at this location on the MB.]
(d) here I got the help of a second person -- one of us held the rod in
position against the back side of the seal, and the other one began tapping on
the rod with a hammer.
Good luck, and again I caution that your Jeep may be different in this area.
