I don't have access to any Ford documents, but I would assume so. (Every
period photo I have ever seen shows it OD.) For the paint specification,
the government gave:

"As per US QMC Specifications, all metal parts comprising the complete
1/4-4x4 Reconnaissance Car Assembly are to be painted according to the
following:

#1 - All parts to be thoroughly cleaned using an acid and hot water wash.
#2 - All parts to be primed using one coat of Yellow-Green Rust Inhibiting
Synthetic Primer (To conform to H.G.D. ES-680) Ditzler XP-475.
#3 - All parts are to be painted using two double coats of synthetic enamel.
"

I would imagine Ford received the same instructions.
