[MV] Re: MV Inspections

Thank goodness I live in South Dakota. This State used to have a motor
vehicle inspection program but it only lasted a few years before it was
discontinued. Getting an older MV to pass the inspections would make a
person just about want to quit the hobby. I don't have anything against
safe vehicles, but to try and please some state agency just because they
exist doesn't make a lot of sense.
When I purchased my halftrack, I just took the bill of sale down to the
courthouse, filled out the application, paid my $5.00 processing fee and
paid $28.00 for the license and $4.00 for the proper tonage tags(halftracks
do weigh a little bit more than your ordinary car) and I was on my way. A
half hour later, with full insurance coverage on the vehicle, I was driving
the vehicle on the street. I have both 30 and 50 cal dummy guns (with
canvas covers in place) mounted on the vehicle, and never have been
bothered by law enforcement. I have even used the winch on the vehicle to
pull stuck vehicles with sheriff deputies on scene. They all think it is a
great vehicle. The same is true for my M211's. Licensed and insured, they
are all street legal and cause no problems in this area of the country.
There is one draw back from living in South Dakota--We don't have that many
MV's around here to either purchase or look at and drool over.

Just my thoughts,
