[MV] Tire Size

I went into the GoodYear dealer yesterday trying to price some Wrangler MTs
for my M715. The guy there didn't know what tire in his inventory was
equivalent (or close enough) to replace the 9.00x16 NDTs.

Q: Anyone out there know what metric/radial sizes will work? Obviously,
wheel well clearance is not an issue.

Q: What does the 9.00" (in 9.00x16) refer to? I know the 16 is the rim
size. Is the 9.00 the width of the tire at the rim? Height of the tire?
Width of the tire at it's widest point? The GoodYear salesman didn't seem
to know either.

I thought I read the answer in my Coker Tire catalog once, but I can't seem
to locate the catalog right now...
