Howdy List,
I just had an interesting phone converstaion with my USAA insurance agent.
I was getting a quote for insurance on my 1944 MB even though it'll be a
LONG time before it's road worthy. Usually there is the choice between
(A.) Regular insurance with only the book value (B.) Antique Vehicle
Insurance which puts all sorts of storage & use restrictions on you vehicle.
In Georgia (the only state the agent knew that USAA offered this choice)
you can have the vehicle appraised & insured by that value. The vehicle
has to be over 25 years old. The agent says the only thing special you
need is a signed letter from the appraiser with the value, appraiser
organization, and other such appraiser identification info from him. I
asked about restrictions on the parking & storage and he said that there
were no additional restrictions like the ones for Antique vehicle coverage.
It sounds like the perfect blend of coverage & flexibility.
Hope this helps the MV owners in Georgia. If you need more info, I can
try to get the same operator at USAA for more info. He specialized in
Georgia & Louisiana so that's the only reason he knew about it. We are
going to look into this for my Wife's 1969 GMC, so if we do get the policy,
I'll update everyone on the process.
