[MV] Master-Brake Cylinder Heat Shield

I recently learned of the heat shield mounted just below the master-brake
cylinder on the WWII Jeeps. It is intended to protect the brake cylinder from
the exhaust line that passes just below.

I got an opportunity to see 4 jeeps this week-end, and not one of them had this
shield.
- First, how important is this shield?

- Does anyone have the dimensions for the plate, its two brackets, and where
they attach?

- Looks like it would be very easy to make, except for the asbestos. Would
fiberglass be a reasonable substitute?

- Given proximity of this heat source, is it better to use DOT3 brake fluid, if
the shield is not installed?

- Does anyone re-manufacture these. If so, how much do they cost?

I was also told that routing for the exhaust system on late model MBs went
straight back, instead of exiting just in from to the wheel on the passenger's
side. What is the proper configuration; and if different, when did it change
(date or S/N)?

Enjoy your day -- Preferably in an old (1945 MB) jeep.
