I don't believe it either but I was told by a well known collector/dealer that
Willys used motors that were cast by a company named Wilkinson Motors. I must
admit that this sounded funny to me but I have heard so many conflicting
stories about some subjects that I have kept my mind open to the POSSIBILTY of
almost any plausible suggestion. Especially when I have no specific facts to
immediately debunk the suggestion. However knowing that Willys Overland MOTORS
Inc. had been the original inventor of the Willys 422 "Go-Devil" and had been
building them for a decade before the war it seemed like they should be the
guys who cast them. I mean, they bought their axles from Spicer, their body
tubs from American Central, their electrics from Electric-Autolite or Corcoran
Brown, their frames from AO Smith (by some accounts) or Midland Steel (by
others) their wheels from Kelsey-Hayes, Transmissions from Spicer also and
their transfer cases from Brown-Lippe, if they didn't cast their own motors
what exactly did they do? They would just be they guys who put it all
together!
