I recently purchased a '42 GPW.
It needs some work.
It has a tubular bumper with a square channel tow bar.
The tubular bumper narrows to a almost rounded point at each end.
It appears to be original military equipment but I'm not sure.
I seem to remember seeing photos of jeeps with a tow bar like this.
Can anyone tell me if this is original and if it is worth keeping on the
vehicle?
While I'm at it ...
Can any of the historians in this group help me with any history on this
jeep.
The serial number (on the title none on the jeep itself) is GPW51857
The markings on the hood are:
USA
28642949
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
