Hi List from Naples, Italy!
A few months back there was some correspondence concerning a Jeep converted
for moving litters for the USMC: the spare wheel moved on the hood, the
windshield modified straight up, a frame on the top to accomodate litters,
etc. There was also a guy who was restoring one (please, let us know about
the restoration!).
Well, I collect die cast M.V. in 1/43 scale and by going through the pages
of the 1998 catalogue of the French manufacturer SOLIDO, I was surprised to
see... one such Jeep in O.D. livery!
The cat no. is 6112.
It is quite a good model complete with a trailer. The only discrepancy I
have seen are the spare wheel still on the back (and not on the hood), the
windshield lowered on the hood (to accomodate the top frame for the
litters) and the rear seat (as far as I know it was removed?).
There is a litter on the top of the rack.
It will not be too difficult to detach the spare wheel from the sprue on
the back and glue it on the hood after having removed the windshield.
I have NOT yet purchased the model because it is not yet available in shops
here in Naples. I have only seen it in the 1998 SOLIDO catalogue. I hope
to add it to my collection of Jeeps and M.V. ASAP!
I remember there was a guy who sent a message to the List when he purchased
a "commando" Jeep by SOLIDO (actually a British S.A.S. Jeep used in
Africa). I am sure that other members of the List are interested or
collect M.V. die cast models.
Keep Them Rolling (or as Mr. Buzz says: Real Jeeps are O.D., all others are
wannabes!).
