>I recently purchased a M38A1 from a farmer friend. I rode in it as late =
as
last fall, so I know it has run. I have new plugs and wires, and all show=

good spark. Starter turns the engine fine, and fuel is pumping to the car=
b.
It doesn't act like it wants to kick over, and when I pull plugs after
trying they are bone dry. No gas seems to be getting to them. Any ideas?

The carb float is probably stuck shut. At the worst case the carb may be=

totally gummed. That can happen if the gas in the tank is old. But sinc=
e
it was running last fall it should not be too bad. I'd try to get the
engine running but dumping a small amount of gas into the carb while you
are cranking it over. It should start up and run for a minute and often
times I've found that the shaking of the engine will often break the floa=
t
loose. If after a couple of tries like that it still won't keep running=
,
then you will need to at least partially disassemble the carb to get the
fuel to flow. Try pulling the float bowl cover off and see why the float =
is
stuck. Free it up, reassemble and fire up the engine. Check for fuel
leaks if the gasket was torn at all during partial disassembly. If it wa=
s
gummed up at all, pour a full bottle of STP fuel injector/carb cleaner in=
to
the gas tank and let it run. I've had great success with the STP
carb/fuel injector cleaners in the white bottles. The stuff really works=
=2E =

It might save you a complete carb rebuild. =

Good Luck,

Dave
