I've read all that stuff about the MVPA and wether or not its
good, bad, worth joning or biased against the public, etc.
I now want to lay out the reality of this situation.
I just got back from the TOBY rally. I got there 6AM on Thursday morning
and immediatly found an item I had been looking for about 2 years for
and got it cheap.
If it werent for the MVPA I'd still be looking for it. If you balk at
paying the membership price then figure how much more it would cost you
to find and get shipped all that green stuff for your MIL-VEH.
#2. Theres hype and reality. NOONE was turned away from entering member
or not.
Security at the gate was not strict and for the most part if you were
dumb enough to point out that you werent a member then you could be
turned away IF somebody sharp enough or cared enough was there.
Anyway if you cant afford to join and cant cough up $5. to get in, if
you had to ,then don't get a mil-veh. It's way out of your budget. I've
seen a lot of people piss and moan about the $5. to get in then blow
$20. on the really neat M-37 ball cap they had to
have.
The MVPA is working hard to keep the BOZOs in Washington from gutting
the MIL-Veh community with all kind of stupid regs and laws. I would be
happy to pay more to them if it helps to keep the State Cops from teling
me I cant drive my truck because of some bullshit "tree hugger" law that
just got snuck in.
One other note. If you are serious about your toy then plan to be at the
rallies either Wednesday afternoon of Thursday morning. After that most
of the really good deals are gone. By Friday pickings are about regular
and Saturday is for tourists.
The best thing is to get a dealer spot and bring your odds and ends and
sell them while having a ton of fun with the other guys. MVPA rallies
are the best kick back and guzzle fests around.
All in all before you get all uptight about some rule or issue, talk to
somebody whos "been there, done that" and see what the reality is.
Anybody who missed the TOBY rally should be sorry, it was really
great!!!!
